Due to transportation issues, some of the students had no other choice but to arrive at midnight. I was told that was the latest transportation that could get off campus. However, when I arrived at the airport, I was early (that’s an incredible feat for me), the students were in good spirits. They were so excited to get going. I was excited for them.

Although I had been to the Bahamas prior to our travel, it was a treat to experience the excitement through them. Some were nervous because they had never flown before. Others were old hats at the airplane traveling thing.

Once we got through security, it seemed to somehow become more real for some of my students. Their faces were aglow. I can tell you I was actually proud of what Chila and I had done. We were exposing something new to these students and in some strange way I knew that these inexperience young people that I was leading through the terminal would not be the same individuals once we traversed the Columbus International Airport in 8 days.

I am more excited to see their transformation than the actual trip. I am leading students but I will be returning with adults. I hope you enjoy our journey with us.

Kris Y.
